The Christian Homemaker

Have you been asked by well meaning ladies (even Christian), “what do you do all day”? The side eyed looks, and shaking of the head as if you’ve done a horrible sin is truly disrespectful to your freedom to choose what’s best for your own life and family. No where in the bible is it condemned or forbidden for a woman to not work outside her home. Throughout scripture you see the opposite yet many try to pull the old Proverbs 31 woman card (and any other scripture to justify their thinking) to make you think otherwise. Many have taken scriptures out of context to come up with unbiblical thinking on this issue. It’s really sad how we as homemakers are questioned and judged (instead of respected and encouraged) for our choice to make being a keeper at home our fulltime career. We’ve all heard the “what ifs” and all the exceptions but we have our convictions and we live this life by faith. Listen to the wisdom in this young lady. She’s wise beyond her years.

Here is another one that encourages even those of us who do not or no longer are raising young children:

DIY Cream of Mushroom

Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter or ghee
3/4 cup of gluten free, wheat or white flour
6 cups of warm milk (of your choosing but be sure it’s unsweetened)
2-3 Tbsp. Chicken Better than Bouillon base
2 tsp. sea salt (or to your preferred taste)
1/2 tsp. black or white pepper
4 oz. fresh mushrooms sliced and sauteed

Directions:
In a large saucepan melt butter or ghee over low heat. Add flour and stir until smooth. Cook flour mixture until it begins to bubble but don’t let it brown (This how you make a roux.). Gradually pour and stir in milk. Keep stirring until the sauce has thickened. Stir in Better Than Bouillon base, salt, and pepper. You could leave out the salt and pepper if you prefer. Turn off heat. Dice up your sauteed mushrooms into smaller pieces and add to the mixture. Stir and allow to cool down before storing for later use.

Note: This makes 4 cans of those (10- 3/4oz.) soups. Measure out 1 1/2 cups to place into jars, containers, or even Ziplock bags (if you want to try freezing for later). Keep in the fridge until ready to use.

When making you can also replace some of the milk with water to make lower in calories. For regular Cream of Chicken Soup just omit adding in the mushrooms. You can put in a small amount of small diced chicken pieces instead of that’s what you like. If you want more soup varieties check out this version.

Loving your neighbor

I have a neighbor who is ill. Her birthday is coming up in a few days. She says she has the flu. It’s not fun having a birthday while one is ill so I put together a basket to help her feel a little better. I made some chicken noodle soup, added a sleeve of saltine crackers, as well as a mug with herbal teas (and a bottle of honey) that are easy on the stomach. I made up some electrolyte drinks in the water bottles for her. I also tucked some other goodies underneath the get well items. She really liked it. I was glad to be able to bless her and bring a smile to her face. We could all do a little something to be a blessing to someone even if it’s just a small jester.

Homemaker’s Creed

I wonder if this creed is available somewhere to hang on a homemakers wall. I love the old ways and reminders of old-fashioned life when times were much simpler and homemakers weren’t looked down upon.
