We show Love to God by Obeying Him

Happy Valentine’s Day! Today, I wrap up my search of scriptures to show what God’s Word says concerning love. Today, I want to share how we show our love for God through obedience to Him. Below, I share different bible versions of these scriptures and highlight the word love.

Deuteronomy 7:9 (NKJV)

“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;

Joshua 22:5 (NKJV)

But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Matthew 22:36-40 (NKJV)

36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Mark 12:30-31 (NKJV)
30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

John 14:21-24 (NKJV)

21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

John 14:21-24 (AMP)

21 The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, what has happened that You are going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him. 24 One who does not [really] love Me does not keep My words. And the word (teaching) which you hear is not Mine, but is the Father’s who sent Me.

1 John 5:1-3 (NKJV)

1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NKJV)

1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Ephesians 5:1-2 (AMP)

1Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]; and walk continually in love [that is, value one another—practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

Let’s also not forget this very important thing…

Proverbs 3:12 (NKJV)

12 For whom the LORD loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 3:12 (AMP)

12“For those whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.”

I had intended to do more posts for this series, but other things kept coming up. Thanks for stopping by to learn with me. I hope you now have a deeper understanding of God’s view of love. We don’t have to focus on one day each year to show others we love them. Let’s make this a daily practice all throughout the year.

God is Love

Yesterday, I began a post showing what love is according to God’s word. It’s different from the world’s view of love. In 1 John 4:8&16, we learn that God is Love. Let’s take a look at the passage of scriptures with those verses.

1 John 4:7-21 (NKJV)

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us. 20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

Because God is love, let’s now look at how He showed love for all mankind.

John 3:16-18 (NKJV)

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:16-18 (ESV)

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Ephesians 2:4-7 (ESV)

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:4-7 (AMP)

4 But God, being [so very] rich in mercy, because of His great and wonderful love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated from Him because of our sins, He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace—His undeserved favor and mercy—you have been saved from God’s judgment).
6 And He raised us up together with Him [when we believed], and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, [because we are] in Christ Jesus,
7 [and He did this] so that in the ages to come He might [clearly] show the immeasurable and unsurpassed riches of His grace in [His] kindness toward us in Christ Jesus [by providing for our redemption].

Romans 5:8 (NKJV)

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (ESV)

8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (AMP)

“But God clearly shows and proves His own love
 for us
by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”.

Thanks again for stopping by to learn the truth about love with me. I plan to come back and share more on biblical love again tomorrow.

Happy Reformation Day!

The 5 SOLAS Of The Reformation:

Sola Scriptura: by scripture alone- The Holy Bible is God’s written Word. It alone is the final and perfect authority for what we are to believe and do in our lives. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

Soli Deo Gloria: glory to God alone- God alone will receive all glory, including for
man’s salvation. (Romans 11:36, 1 Corinthians 10:31)

Solo Christo: through Christ alone- One is saved only through Christ and do not need to go through a priest or anyone else. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12, 1 Timothy 2:5)

*I love it when we sing “In Christ Alone” in Sunday morning worship. I love what this guy did with the song.

Sola Gracia: by grace alone- One is saved only by God’s grace. Salvation is a gift from God that is not deserved and cannot be bought or earned. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:24)

Sola Fide: by faith alone- One is not saved through good works, but only through trusting in Christ. (Romans 3:28, Romans 4:5)

We enjoy watching this Martin Luther movie each year:
