Natural Skin care: DIY scrubs

I’m always looking around for good products (like face and body scrubs) that help thoroughly cleanse and moisturize my aging skin. I don’t like the price tags on the so called “good stuff” because they aren’t budget friendly. I prefer products with more natural ingredients so I found recipes I can throw together right in my own kitchen. I always have these items on hand so I can whip up my own face, body, and lip sugar scrubs.

Brown Sugar Face~n~Body Scrub

1 cup packed Brown Sugar (Coconut works too)
1/2 cup Honey
1/2 cup Coconut (Olive or Sweet Almond) Oil A few drops of essential oil of choice (optional)

Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl and transfer to a jar with an airtight lid. I used my pint-sized Mason jar. I store this in a bathroom linen closet or somewhere in a cool (not cold) temperature. I use this once a week. Rub onto wet face or skin in circular motions. Rinse off before applying other products. If I need to use it in the shower, I just get a little out and put it into something unbreakable because knowing me, an accident is waiting to happen if I don’t. Now we don’t want that to happen, do we? 😦

DIY Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

1 Tbsp. Brown sugar (Coconut sugar works too)
1 Tbsp. Coconut (Avocado or Olive) Oil (honey works too)
2 drops of vanilla extract (go easy on this because it’s just for scent, or you can use mint essential oil)

Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl and transfer to a jar with an airtight lid. I used one of my small Mason jars. I store this in a bathroom linen closet or somewhere it’s much cooler. I normally use it once a week (or a few times a week when the weather is cold) to keep my lips soft. Now don’t be tempted to eat this because it tastes good. 😉 Rub onto wet lips in a circular motion to exfoliate. Rinse and pat dry. Apply a lip balm if you like.

All in all, I think you can play around with these by swapping for different scents or flavors. I love making my own products because I can control what’s in them. Another plus is that I get to save money. I find when making these it makes more product, which makes them stretch and last much longer.

  1. This sounds like a good recipe. It is almost unbelievable how easy you can make such things.

Advertising often makes us think that we have to buy the most expensive products in order to care for our body properly.

    Have a blessed day!

  2. Hello Mrs. Hagema! Thank you for visiting. I pray you are encouraged and find something useful. I started blogging to have something to leave behind for memories my loved ones in case I am no longer here on earth before Jesus returns. I try to post as much as I’m able. Keeping the home and serving my family keeps me plenty busy.

I pray you are having a joyfilled day and hope to hear from you again 🙂
